#2:  ‘S’

The phone rang and sleepily I grab around, searching for the offensive device to tell off whoever would call at this ungodly hour whatever hour it is. I find the handset and bring it up to my ear murmuring a sleepy hello.

“We’s founded you’s. We’s comings for yous and what’s ours.” I slowly blink the sleep away and look at the handset in my hand. “Unbelievable!” Why is it unbelievable? I’m holding my sons playskool phone head set in my hand. I have to be dreaming. This is unreal. Yet I still hear murmuring coming from the phone and bring it to my ear once again to listen, very closely.
Louder the voice, no voices say again “we’s coming for you’s and what’s ours. The times is heres ands wes needs what’s ours, NOWS!”

I begin trembling in shock and fear and what is happening. How is this even possible? This has to be a prank. So I take a moment, while still grasping the phone, to sit up and look around. “Jack?” I call out for my husband. I have forgotten that he’s away on business for the weekend. Hence my reason for falling asleep on the sofa tonight. I cannot sleep properly in our bed when he’s not here. Suddenly I hear a scream and look down at the phone head set. It seems different now. Almost glowing in my hand. I want to let go of it, throw it or destroy it. But something deep in my subconscious stops me and I find myself mechanically bringing the phone back to me ear. I take a deep breath which does nothing to calm my shaking hands and listen to what’s being said on the phone. I’m not understanding what’s being said any longer. I think they are speaking in a different language. So I say the first thing that comes to mind “w-what do you want from me?” “Wes wants what’s ours Beccas.” They know my freakin name! How is this possible? How is any of this possible? They start speaking again and all I understand of the gibberish is my name. I start feeling a warm sensation in the center of my chest. It’s almost vibrating and heating as the voices speak louder and faster. I am now panting and the vibrating warmth is beginning to hurt. It’s as if someone is trying to pull something out of my chest. I think that’s exactly what’s happening. I’m now gripping the phone so hard the plastic is creaking. My other hand is grabbing on the sofa arm. My nails are embedded in the fabric and I want to scream. Oh how I want to scream. “W-what’s happening to me?” I get out of my lips between panting breaths.

Suddenly my chest starts to pulsate, throb and glow. I can no longer catch my breath and am now trying to get my nails out of the sofa arm so I can claw at my chest. I cannot move the phone away from my ear. I have no control over that arm. A circular glow starts to form in my mid chest
area and I still cannot get my hand off of the arm of the sofa to touch it. Stop it. Soothe it in some way. It feels as if something is punching through from the inside of my chest cavity out. They are chanting now with my name every once and a while. I cannot speak, cannot scream. Suddenly the chanting stops. I’m greeted by silence. I am unable to move the phone from my ear. I’m helpless, useless, a hot mess of pain and agony. I swear I’m going to see blood pool from my chest and down to my lap. But there is none. Just a smooth golden stone. Shaped as a very slanted eye and the size of a new born fist. It’s fully through my flesh now. Sitting on top of my skin as if attached by a magnet. The pain is gone but my heart has yet to begin to slow to a normal rhythm.
“Wes takes what’s ours from Beccas. Wes has ours powers backs and no mores Beccas tos keeps safes.” “W-what? What do you mean?”  I question the voices. Waiting for an answer, any answer to my question. The stone dislodges completely from my flesh and moves towards the mouth piece of the phone. It brightens before my eyes and turns into a mist form. Slowly it travels through the holes of the mouth piece and is gone with a bright flash and a flicker.

I’m sitting there dumbfounded and panicked waiting to see what will happen next. Still in the same position, unable to move, to think clearly and act. “It’s ours nows ands so ares you Beccas. Wes takes whats is ours and keeps its safes. Nows yous comes tos us.” I quickly let out a gasp and move my eyes to look around and down at myself. I’m gone.
