Characters in Love: Snooper from Mandy the Alpha Dog

Welcome to Unwritten's

Each day will feature a different fictional character from various books and genres, and a personal interview about their love lives. It's sure to be enlightening, and if you find yourself dying to know more about them, pick up a copy of the the book!

Today, let's welcome Snooper from Mandy the Alpha Dog:

1. Please tell us a little about yourself:

I am a mature chap despite my young age.  I was the cleanup crew for a family with two young sons.  Twins they were, actually. When their baby brother was born, their mother said I was too much trouble to keep on, and she took me to the nearest shelter to await my next gig.

I went home with an older couple and that night I got called a thief. Haven’t lived that name down, but I did steal a Boboli that Grandma had for dinner.  She was fast.  She got it away from me before I got more than one bite.  I did make it a big one though.

I am Grandpa’s companion while Grandma is away at work.  It’s mostly an easy job.  Grandpa and I snack and sleep, snack and sleep, then do it again.

2. How/where did you first meet your love interest?

Grandpa does the driving, and I ride ‘lookout’ when we drop and pick Grandma from work.  It’s nice getting out a couple of times a day and what dog, what Beagle doesn’t love the wind in his face?  I have to do it second hand.  Grandpa keeps the windows up, but the vents are open.  Quirky, I know, but he’s a good guy, otherwise.

One night, about eight months into the job, Grandpa says, “We got a surprise for you tonight.  A young lady is coming to live with us.  She was on her way to lockup and more than likely lights out for good – she’s a biter.  We’re counting on you to get her in line.”

I’m thinking, ‘Oh, wonderful, a biter and you expect me, a quiet, mild mannered fellow to take this added work in stride.  High strung, I don’t do.’  But then I think, ‘They must figure I can handle her, so I Beagle up and await my assignment.’

3. Was it love [or attraction] at first sight?

A white 4x4 pulls in and parks beside us.  Turns out this is her ride. Grandpa gets out and talks to the fellow for a bit, then tells me to join him.

The fellow opens the back door to the cab and out steps the most beautiful Beagle female, I’ve ever seen.  I feel my mouth go slack, and my tongue waters, but my legs go weak when she bats her eyelashes and says, “Hi big boy, I understand you’re my handler.  Good luck, I’m a biter.”

I’m thinking, ‘This is one lovely lady, but if I don’t get this in paw real fast, I’ll be wearing tread marks the rest of my days.’   My heart is beating too fast, and I figure she’s going to sense my attraction, so I bear down on her and start sniffing.  She apparently is not too thrilled and paws me in the face.  I growl, she paws me again.  The next time she goes to paw me, I grab it gently, and growl.

She sits and stares, thinking she’s intimidating me.  She is, but I don’t let her see it, and stare back until she finally lies down and rolls on her back.  I move in to smell her, and she whispers, “You won this round, Brown eyes, only because I don’t want to go back to the pound.”

4. When did you know for certain that you were in love?

Right then and there. She was feisty, and gorgeous, an unbeatable combination.  “Smart Lady,” I say, thinking, ‘I’m in love.’  She exuded unleashed power, and with some training, which she obviously needed, she was going to be a leader.

5. Have you done anything to compromise your love [or vice versa]?

Not that I’m aware.  We had a bunch of good natured rough housing in the beginning, but none ever turned vicious in our ‘fighting’ – it was always fun, and the nips were love nips, no deep biting.

6. Has anyone ever come between you?

I had a bit of a jealous streak when Shadow first came to us.  Mandy was very protective of him.  She did a lot of talking with him, and I wasn’t sure it was totally innocent, but it turns out Mandy did a lot of talking to him about her younger days to get his mind off his being abandoned by his last owner.

Shadow, he’s a Dalmatian, and I am close buds.  Mandy says I think up trouble and Shadow follows.  So, no, no one has come between us just my thoughts, and that only for a short time.

7. If you could take your love on the perfect date, where would that be?

Since Mandy and I have been together, we’ve had a growth in our pack. At one time, there were eight of us, but some have gone on over the Rainbow Bridge.  We’ve had some that were old in years, and dumped at shelters to die.  Our family takes in ones that no one wants, some old, some called vicious, some because of their breed.  It’s always noisy, so I would love to take Mandy camping without the pack. It is beautiful to be in nature, to enjoy the sun on our face, to see the stars, and to know we are a part of this fantastic universe.

8. Is there anything your love does that completely annoys you?

I cannot think of anything about Mandy that annoys me.  She barks, but it is necessary when she does.  Some of the pack barks at cars going by.  What good does that do?  I don’t mind that Mandy has taken the lead in the pack.  I gladly gave it to her.  It frees me up to do what I want, and her being in control makes her feel safe.  We all win.

9. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced together as a couple?

When the first member of the pack went over the Rainbow Bridge, we needed to stand strong for the younger ones and to be there for our human family who grieved.  Great sorrow can draw or push you apart, and I am grateful, it brought us closer together and made us appreciate what we have for each other and our family.

10. Is there a happily ever after in store for you?

I believe in happy endings and while I would like Mandy and I to cross the Rainbow Bridge together, if not, whomever goes ahead will be waiting, and the one left behind will look towards the day of the reunion.  You can’t ask for anything more than eternity.

Characters in Love: Jacob "Feather" Moore from Finder's Tome

Welcome to Unwritten's
February Blog Series
 Characters in Love!
Each day will feature a different fictional character from various books and genres, and a personal interview about their love lives. It's sure to be enlightening, and if you find yourself dying to know more about them, pick up a copy of the the book!

Today, let's welcome Jacob "Feather" Moore from A Finder's Tome:

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
Well, my name’s Jacob Moore, but you can call me Feather, everyone does. It used to bother me, but not anymore. My hometown is Nevendale, where I once worked on my family’s turnip farm. Wow, that seems like ages ago. Now I guess you can say I’m an adventurer. It isn’t something I sought, but sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to, you know?

2. How/where did you first meet your love interest?
Who? Chelsey Fa’Quin? That was a bad day. Not meeting her, mind you, that was great. What was bad was the circumstances of our meeting. My companions and I were traveling north through the Borderland Forest. We were on our way to the Great Wastes looking for an artifact called Mandrake’s Key, when a tribe of hobgoblins attacked us. At first we were doing alright, but they just kept coming. Dozens replaced the ones we struck down. Then Raffael was captured and his wolf, Aegis was seriously injured. Truthfully, we would have all probably died had it not been for Chelsey. She hid up in the trees shooting arrows at the monsters. And I must say, she was good. The best archer I’d ever seen. I don’t think she ever released an arrow that didn’t find its mark. When the battle was finally over, she dropped down to the forest floor, and I guess you could say, I was smitten. I could barely talk straight. Geoffrey had to take over our introductions.

3. Was it love (or attraction) at first sight?
That’s hard to say. I was definitely attracted to her from the start. Part of it was her elfish features; she had gently pointed ears and almond shaped green eyes that drew me in. I had never met a half-elf before, and everything about her intrigued me. I think what struck me the most was how strong and confident she was.

4. When did you know for certain that you were in love?
Unfortunately, it was when she died. I cared for her from the beginning, of course, but when that elf shot her it was as if his arrow struck me as well.

5. Have you done anything to compromise your love (or vice versa)?
I think the biggest compromise was that our mission had to come first. We never had a chance to explore our relationship. There was a great evil threatening FourPosts. Stopping it had to be our first priority. I’d like to think if things were different, you know, if she had survived, I would have been loyal and true to her for the rest of my years.

6. Has anyone ever come between you?
The only one that came between us was that elf who took her away from me. Well, Dillon, the cat-like Felinine who was a part of our group, did make jokes about our relationship at first, but that was to be expected. He was always the sarcastic type.

7. If you could take your lover on the perfect date, where would that be?
I’ve thought of that many times. Sometimes we would spend a warm spring day in the meadow south of my home where we would share a meal and watch the sun go down. At other times, I see us dancing in the Mead Hall. I don’t think it really matters what we would do, though. To be able to spend another hour with her would be perfect.

8. Is there anything your lover does that completely annoys you?
It’s not that it annoyed me, but I think she had trouble sharing her emotions. I know that she had a big falling out with her father, but she never did confide in me as to what happened.

9. What's the biggest challenge you've faced together as a couple?
Her elven background. She didn’t want to talk about it. To her she was no more an elf than I am and got furious if anyone brought it up.

10. Is there a happily ever after in store for you?
I think you already know that answer. She will always live in my heart though. Sometimes she visits me in my dreams or when I find myself lost, and helps me through my trials. I know this sounds crazy, but it’s true.

Characters in Love: Bradley Blackhorse Reynolds from Broken Bonds

Welcome to Unwritten's
February Blog Series
 Characters in Love!
Each day will feature a different fictional character from various books and genres, and a personal interview about their love lives. It's sure to be enlightening, and if you find yourself dying to know more about them, pick up a copy of the the book!

Today, let's welcome Bradley Blackhorse Reynolds from Broken Bonds:

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Bradley Blackhorse Reynolds, and I'm a major in the Terran Federation Guard. I was assigned the post of Commander of the Federation base on Aleyne after I defended one of the men under my command who broke the anti-psi laws.

2. How/where did you first meet your love interest?
At the reception welcoming me to the post of commander of the Federation base on Aleyne. I met Ardaval Namar, an Aleyni. He realized at once I was an empath and could read thoughts, at least occasionally. Psi of any kind is illegal for Terrans, so I was both terrified that I might be caught and punished and elated that at last someone discovered the real me.

3. Was it love (or attraction) at first sight?
Yes. I wanted to kiss him, but there were too many people, both Terran and Aleyni, for me to do it. We did take a walk outside, which was already chancy, but I couldn't resist. He assured me we'd meet again, which was the only thing that allowed me to let him go.

4. When did you know for certain that you were in love?
A few weeks later, I suppose. There was a lot going on, terrorists attacking the computer network and pushing drugs. It didn't leave a lot of time for me to devote to my personal life. Still, I'd made a vow twenty
years ago not to turn away from love, so I was bound and determined to see where my relationship with Ardaval  would go.

5. Have you done anything to compromise your love (or vice versa)?
I don't want to give away the plot of the novel, but yes. both of us did.

6. Has anyone ever come between you?
Ardaval has/had former partners, and he still had feelings for them. He'd formed what's called by the Aleyni a rolor bond, which is an unbreakable psychic bond. He and his ex-partners had attempted to break it, with limited success. It left him with a deeply wounded spirit. And one of his former partners, Imarin, was deeply in love with Arda and determined to get him back.

7. If you could take your lover on the perfect date, where would that be?
Now I'm stumped. Perhaps to hear a wonderful concert by a famous musician.

8. Is there anything your lover does that completely annoys you?
When he's working, he throws his books and papers on the library floor, leaving me or someone else to pick them up. Some of the manuscripts are old and valuable, but he does it anyway.

9. What's the biggest challenge you've faced together as a couple?
Being wrenched apart when I was accused of treason and hauled away to New Oregon without the chance to tell Ardaval what was going on. The Guard sent him a message that I'd been reassigned, and he almost believed them.

10. Is there a happily ever after in store for you?
Read the book and find out.

Characters in Love: JB Edwards from Hemphill Towers

Welcome to Unwritten's
February Blog Series
 Characters in Love!
Each day will feature a different fictional character from various books and genres, and a personal interview about their love lives. It's sure to be enlightening, and if you find yourself dying to know more about them, pick up a copy of the the book!

Today, let's welcome JB Edwards from Hemphill Towers:

1.     Please tell us a little about yourself.

My name is JB Edwards. I’m the head of a large advertising agency that bears my name. When I met Stella, I was a widower with a nineteen year old daughter. Katie was only ten when her mother died.  I did try to find somebody to help raise her.  Most of the women I dated were more interested in my money than they were in being a mother to my daughter.

2.     How/where did you first meet your love interest?

I first met Stella when I hired her. I really didn’t pay much attention to her. She was extremely efficient in her work, and I guess I took her for granted.

3.     Was it love (or attraction) at first sight?

Not at all. She was just another employee. If it hadn’t been for a fateful night at an Italian restaurant, I don’t know where we’d be now. Spilling wine on Stella was a turning point. I saw a whole new side to her. She could have been upset with me, but she chose to see humor in the situation. I’ll have to admit a strong physical attraction at seeing her breasts almost exposed through a lacy, wine-soaked bra.

4.     When did you know for certain that you were in love?

I knew I was a goner when her lips brushed mine after our first date. I swear a bolt of electricity jolted all the way through me. From that point on, I couldn’t get her out of my mind.

5.     Have you done anything to compromise your love (or vice versa)?

Absolutely not! We haven’t known each other long enough for that to happen.

6.     Has anyone ever come between you?

No, but I’ve seen a lot of male clients give her more than a passing glance. It just makes me proud to be the man in her life.

7.     If you could take your lover on the perfect date, where would that be?

I’d take her back to the ski slopes in Switzerland where we went to visit Katie. She was beautiful, her face flushed from the outdoor air when we entered the Majesty Hotel’s dining room. Our sumptuous meal was the end to a perfect day. Stella has a sweet tooth, and I love watching her try to decide on just one dessert.

8.     Is there anything your lover does that completely annoys you?

Not a thing. Well…I don’t understand her need to always wear a jacket to cover her ample bosom. I’ve told her to be proud of it, but she still dresses to downplay part of her natural beauty.

9.     What's the biggest challenge you've faced together as a couple?

Learning to compromise. I was used to living alone, cooking, and things like that, and so was Stella. Now, I cook at least twice a week. I wanted her to travel with me when I have to be out of town for business. A baby will throw a wrench in those plans if she sticks to her guns about not hiring a nanny.

10.   Is there a happily ever after in store for you?

Oh yes, my creator wouldn’t write it any other way. She identifies with Stella. I’ve known this from the moment she started writing. Happy endings are a must. That could be her motto.

Characters in Love: Riley Nolan from Beneath the Scars

Welcome to Unwritten's
February Blog Series
 Characters in Love!
Each day will feature a different fictional character from various books and genres, and a personal interview about their love lives. It's sure to be enlightening, and if you find yourself dying to know more about them, pick up a copy of the the book!

Today, let's welcome Riley Nolan from Beneath the Scars:

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Riley and I was in the Marines. I was serving when I was involved in an explosion leaving me covered in scars. Till Eponine moved into my apartment complex my sister was the only person I talked to. I also wish I could blink and my apartment would be magically cleaned.

2. How/where did you first meet your love interest?
I had seen Eponine a couple of times in the apartment complex we both live in, but we met briefly because of her sister. I made the mistake of leaving my apartment to get the mail and her sister ran into me. She made some comments about my scars and Eponine made her apologize which I returned by shutting the door in their face.

3. Was it love (or attraction) at first sight?
Probably a little more of attraction at first because it took me back that someone like her would be so nice to me, it had been awhile since I was treated like that, let alone by a woman.

4. When did you know for certain that you were in love?
Is there really a single moment that makes a person go, 'now I love that person'? When we started to go on our runs though, we would slowly open up to each other. She invited me into her home, and broke down in front of me. She pushed my buttons in addition to my comfort zone.

5. Have you done anything to compromise your love (or vice versa)?
My own anger and resentment towards the world kept me from getting to know anyone. I was short with her and a real Oscar the Grouch.

6. Has anyone ever come between you?
One name. Blake. He and Eponine went out. He has a nice car and looks like he just walked off the set of Abercrombie photo shoot. Plus his attitude almost got in the way a few times.

7. If you could take your lover on the perfect date, where would that be?
I'm pretty bad at romantic gestures. I would say I'd either cook her dinner in since she's always the one cooking and taking care of others. If I had to take her out though I would say on a nice spring day I'd send her sister to her friend's to play. Then I would pack up a picnic basket hide it in my truck and surprise Eponine with a picnic at a beach to get her away from everything.

8. Is there anything your lover does that completely annoys you?
If you love someone you take the good and the bad. She probably takes more bad than good with me. However she seems to know every button to push with me. Eponine is blunter than I was used to. She also does not let things sit with me, she will push and push till she gets whatever she wanted me to say. Sometimes a man just wants to be left alone.

9. What's the biggest challenge you've faced together as a couple?
Other than my temper I would say my self-consciousness. My body is forever covered in burn scars and it still makes me nervous to go out in public. There is also the threat that to her sister couple be taken away by family services.

10. Is there a happily ever after in store for you?
I'm hoping, but you will have to read to see.

Characters in Love: Galadin Trudeaux from A Ranger's Tale

Welcome to Unwritten's
February Blog Series
 Characters in Love!
Each day will feature a different fictional character from various books and genres, and a personal interview about their love lives. It's sure to be enlightening, and if you find yourself dying to know more about them, pick up a copy of the the book!

Today let's welcome Galadin Trudeaux from A Ranger's Tale:

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

I hate talking about myself, but here goes. I'm a half-elf, son of a human father and high elf mother. They were killed by pirates when I was a boy, but I'd rather not talk about that.

I am, or was, a sea merchant and ranger like my father. Killed stuff for a living, sold the furs and meat. It's a dirty job, one that I never imagined would catch the interest of King Leopold's niece.

2. How/where did you first meet your love interest?

The silly woman was out alone on the docks in Leogard. It's no place for a lone woman, especially not one of her class. She could have at least worn some commoner's clothes to blend in better, but no, there she was in her fine silk robes. She might has well have had "Kidnap Me" written on her forehead, because that's exactly what happened. Two rough sailors I knew from my younger days grabbed her and would have sold her off to a harem had I not intervened.

3. Was it love (or attraction) at first sight?

For me or Caliphany? Haha! Once I got her out of those kidnappers' clutches, she looked at me like I might be one of them. As for me, I couldn't get those eyes of hers out of my head, so I guess you can say I definitely noticed her that day.

4. When did you know for certain that you were in love?

When I had to leave her. See, she found me a few days after that attempted kidnapping and asked me to train her as a ranger so she could defend herself. I should have known better. A woman of royal blood and a half-breed like me didn't mix, not in Leogard anyway. But, I couldn't resist that sack of gold. A whole month's wages, right there for the taking. So, I trained her, figuring she would give up her little hobby when she saw what the job entailed. But I underestimated her, and myself. Every passing day left me wanting more of her company. Little did I know what she really wanted was to leave the city for good and strike out on her own.

So one night, she stowed away on my ship. Needless to say, we found her after we set sail the next day, but King Leopold's navy was hot on our trail. We had to get her back on dry land before we all hung from a noose. We managed to elude them and sneak her into Faewood. That's where I left her, for a while at least, and that's when I knew I had fallen hard.

5. Have you done anything to compromise your love (or vice versa)?

You might say that. Both of us were too stubborn and stupid to admit how we felt about each other at first. After that...let's just say that something happened that was beyond my control, and when I came back, she wasn't wearing my ring.

6. Has anyone ever come between you?

You would ask me that, wouldn't you? Ever heard of Jayden Ravenwing? No? You're not missing out on much. He's nothing but a pansy-ass, harp-playing short wood elf with an overgrown ego. He's also the head of the L.I.O., the king's secret spy agency. Well, woopty doo! He might be good at tracking people down, but he's also good at taking what's not his.

7. If you could take your lover on the perfect date, where would that be?

I can't think of a better place than Tilliya Island. Perfect weather, warm breezes, sand so soft, you could walk barefoot in it all day. The best food you'll ever eat too, thanks to Yura and Keevo Juntay. It's like a second home to me and the place where Cali and I finally stopped being idiots and admitted how we felt.

8. Is there anything your lover does that completely annoys you?

If you let Cali read this, I'm coming after you, hear me? She's a terrible cook. Sorry, but it's true. Poor woman tries and tries, but damn if she doesn't set fire to something half the time, and I don't mean with her fire mage powers either. She grew up in the lap of luxury and never had to lift a finger until we met. I've tried to tell her to leave the cooking to more experienced folks (like me), but she wants to impress me and try to be Little Miss Homemaker. I mean, don't get me wrong, she's the best fire mage and ranger that I've ever seen, not that I've seen that many. But, cooking is not her thing.

9. What's the biggest challenge you've faced together as a couple?

Besides the whole mess Ravenwing started? I'd rather not rehash that now, since we've reached what you might call a truce. He does have a few redeeming qualities--I mean he's pretty handy in a fight, and he's finally found someone who's not another man's wife...or isn't currently another man's wife.

10. Is there a happily ever after in store for you?

Considering Cali's now wearing my ring and is the mother of my children, I certainly hope so. But, you know how life is. One minute you're relaxing at home and the next you're trying to stop an apocalypse. All I know is that I'm not taking another minute for granted.
